History of GAP Department

General and Applied Physics Department was founded April 2019 on the base of two departments – General Physics and Theoretical and Applied Physics. However, the departments history begins from 1947 when the physics and chemistry united department was organized in Kyiv Institute of Civil Aviation.

Since that time the department was reformatted several times with the respective change of name:

1961 – Physics Department;

2003 – General Physics Department and Theoretical Physics Department;

2012 – General Physics Department and Theoretical and Applied Physics Department;

2019 – General and Applied Physics Department.

During these years the department was chaired by professors M. Gratsianskii, B. Savinov, N. Varfolomeev, A. Soloviev, V. Shevelia, P. Kulish, A. Shpak, O. Kusnetsova, A. Polishchuk.

The department teachers have defended over 10 theses for a Doctor degree and over 50 theses for a Dph degree, published over 70 educational editions including in English (with stamp of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine), over 20 monograph, over 40 inventions, and the number of the published scientific papers reaches many hundreds (many from which are noted in Scopus а Web of Science).

All the time the activities of the department team were directed to prepare the high qualification specialists with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and the active stand in life. Today the department  being headed by Prof. A. Polishchuk,  Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, and successfully works on solution of variety of problems – from developing the high-efficient researches to providing the up-to-date level of teaching and educational process including in English.
