The program is unique in that it aims to train professionals who are able not only to design an aircraft, but to select or develop and integrate passenger and cargo cabin equipment, taking into account design, ergonomic, economic, airworthiness and crashworthiness requirements.
Students study the design and principles of design of transport category airplanes, as well as helicopters and piston light airplanes, their equipment and systems. Gain knowledge from:
– applying of computer-aided design (CAD) systems, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM); computer-aided engineering (CAE) and Continuous acquisition and life cycle support (CALS) of aircraft;
– applying of modern aviation materials, including the manufacture of composite structures;
– design of aircraft taking into account European (EASA) and US (FAA) airworthiness requirements and standards;

Expert domain: Retaining and restoration of aircraft airworthiness, preparation of aircraft for flight, aircraft functional systems assemblies and technical condition check and control, routine maintenance performing, evaluation of the efficiency of flight operation, commissioning the advanced methods of aircraft maintenance, engineering support of trouble-free aircraft operation in flight.

Expert domain: operation of modern vehicle and transport equipment, special vehicles and equipment, intended for automated and powered devices supply for production processes of ground support of aircraft flights, analуsis of the processes in airport transport systems, planning of different vehicles interaction, advisable application of rolling stock, estimation of vehicles performance, transportation prime cost, use efficiency of energy resources, support of fuels and lubricants supply of aircraft enterprises.

Study content:
Energy machines , in a broad sense of the word, are machines that provide:
- the conversion of energy from one form (nuclear, chemical bonds, thermal, mechanical, electrical,…) to another (reactors, furnaces, turbines, compressors, electric generators, engines);
- energy transfer from one carrier to another (heat exchangers, refrigerators, ejectors,…);
- adjustment of parameters (such as temperature, pressure, velocity, rotational speed, voltage, AC frequency,…) and energy of a certain form (reducers, transformers,…).
The Aerospace faculty of the National Aviation University (NAU) specializes in educational program “ Gas turbine plants and compressor stations ” in frame of specialty “Power machinery”, specializing in thermal power equipment, with a focus on stationary gas turbine engines, used to drive, in particular, natural gas superchargers at compressor stations of main gas pipelines, generators at electrical power plants.
The educational process is built using many years of experience in training at NAU and, in particular, at the graduating department (Department of Aircraft Engines) of specialists in the operation of aircraft gas turbine engines and piston power plants: training materials; classrooms, which are equipped with prepared full-scale engines, drawings and diagrams of these engines, their individual structural elements and functional systems.
Based on knowledge of general technical disciplines, students majoring in 142 “Power Engineering”
NAU study the theory of working processes of gas turbine plants of different schemes, working processes of the main elements of the air-gas partht of these plants (compressor stages, combustion chamber, turbine stages), thermodynamics and gas dynamics. This, in turn, creates a basis for students to further study the design of gas turbine bplants, ensuring their strength and durability, management of their operation, technology and organization of their design, manufacture, testing, installation, operation, diagnosis and repair.
Objects of the economy, the creation and operation of which may be associated with the professional activities of graduates:
- stationary and mobile power plants and thermal power plants using steam turbine and gas turbine thermodynamic cycles, solid, liquid, gaseous and nuclear fuels;
- heat generating enterprises and installations of housing and communal services, industry and agro-industrial complex;
- engines of aircraft, water, rail and road transport;
- compressor stations of main gas pipelines;
- research organizations dealing with the problems of increasing the energy efficiency of operation, durability, resources and economic efficiency of engines and heat equipment operation;

Study content:
Aircraft gas turbine engines are the most complex and at the same time the most advanced energy machines, which provide the conversion of heat, generated by fuel combustion, first into the kinetic and potential energy of the working fluid (which is the flow of compressed air) and then into the driving force capable of moving the flying vehicle in the air at high speed and over long distances. This means that the aircraft gas turbine engine performs two functions simultaneously: it is both a heat engine, that converts heat into mechanical energy, and a propulsion device, that moves the aircraft in the air.
For the design, manufacture and efficient use of such complex machines as aircraft gas turbine engines and other aircraft energy plants in future, specialists who have mastered the knowledge of mathematics, physics, thermo- and gas dynamics, material science, computer design of mechanisms and machines are needed. This is the set of knowledge and skills that will be received by students studying in the educational-professional program “Aircraft engines and energy plants” in the bachelor’s degree in specialty “Power Engineering”.
